About All-Eastern
The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) along with a host state sponsors the bi-annual Eastern Division Conference. The states of the Eastern Division—which include Maryland/DC and all states northeast through Maine—as well as the European Music Educators Association, collaborate on this event, as well as host several All-Eastern Honors Ensembles.
Students from Maryland qualify by being selected as members of the Maryland All State Ensembles in the year prior as 10th or 11th graders. They then qualify in the summer/fall before the conference and can apply for consideration.

Maryland is allocated a percentage of students of the biannual All-Eastern Ensembles, which is determined the year prior based on MMEA’s membership size. Educators, collegiate students, and retired teachers can all be members.
In 2025, Maryland received approximately 5% of the All-Eastern ensemble spots and is the sixth-largest MEA in the division. (The largest two being New York and Pensyvlania with a combination of over 5000 members, providing those two states approx 50% of the ensemble makeup.
